Green Tick (verified WhatsApp account)
The Green Tick is the official verified badge Meta grants to businesses with a notable public presence on WhatsApp. It confirms that the account belongs to the brand it claims to represent.
The Green Tick is WhatsApp's version of the verified badge you see on social networks: a small green checkmark next to a business name that confirms to users that they are talking to the brand's official account and not an impostor. Meta grants it after a manual review, and the bar is high.
What it actually does
- Displays the business name (not just the phone number) when a message arrives
- Builds visual trust with customers, which matters most in collections and support
- Reduces the risk of a competitor spinning up a similar number to impersonate your brand
- Unlocks additional features for some message categories
Official criteria Meta considers
Meta does not publish an exact checklist, but the known factors are:
- A sustained public presence for the brand (press coverage, Wikipedia, an established domain)
- The notability of the name and the authenticity of the company
- A clean history of compliance with WhatsApp's commercial policies
- Message volume and number quality (Standard, Medium, or High)
- The business being verified in Meta Business Suite
The reality for small and medium businesses
Most SMBs in Latin America do not get the Green Tick on the first attempt. Meta prioritizes brands with verifiable media coverage. For mid-sized companies, the most common path is:
- Operate with the Cloud API without a Green Tick for months, keeping high number quality
- Build public presence (a professional website, press mentions, reviews)
- Request verification once you have a sustained track record
Not having a Green Tick does not stop you from operating normally. It is a nice to have rather than a requirement.
How to request it
From Meta Business Manager, go to WhatsApp Accounts, select your account, and choose Request verification. Meta asks for company documentation, evidence of public presence, and a commercial reason for the verification. The review can take anywhere from days to weeks.
A serious Tech Provider helps you assemble the request dossier but cannot guarantee approval: the final decision is always Meta's.
